Hello everybody  I am building a site for my old school, and i need some help with cgi.
the site is currently sitting on www.djpc.co.uk - but it will be moved to www.dawlishcollege.co.uk
HERS WHAT I WANT TO DO...
We want to ditch Bravenet's guestbook and hit counters etc(although they are very good) and we would prefer to use our own stuff. and also want to create a newsletter by reaping (parsing... correct term??) data input form a single page. ie comments can go to the guestbook and email addys can go into our database. I realise that i will have to use forms. Thats all i know. lol
HERES WHAT I NEED TO KNOW..
As i am totally new to any kind of CGI and i dont know where to start,
i need to know what i have to find out about the server. all we know is that we have a CGI-BIN folder but some of the scripts i have seen say that they need to be made executable by the server. what does this mean ?? in fact tell me everything. no detail is too small!
can somebody (anybody !) please post a step by step guide starting form the very beginning please?
