Does you have MySQL available on the server which hosts the site?

You'll need to set up your MySQL database, and then follow the instructions provided. If you get stuck on a specific instruction, then get back here and let us know.

What are you using for the setup? CPanel? phpMyAdmin? Does your ISP have a helpdesk?
If you go with a web host that has CPanel, like http://www.nameplace.com.au/ , you get a one-click setup of PHPBB. It sets up the database with your user name and password and installs the latest PHPBB in your chosen directory (usually /forum). Very, very easy.

You should contact your ISP's help desk.

Then you upload everything in FTP to the correct directory that you want to use. Then go through your install file and make sure that the CHMOD (permissions) are set correctly. After that, in your browser go to the location of your install file. (Usually /forum/install/install.php). Follow the step-by-step instructions.

Never heard of it, but you should be able to right-click on any file and choose "CHMOD". You should then get a dialogue box allowing you to make any permission changes.
I use CuteFTP Pro and FileZilla ( http://filezilla.sourceforge.net/)

There's a page about FTP. Have a read. Or better yet go to Google and search for something like "FTP explained" or "how to set file permissions" and find more information.
Enjoy!
