Shopping Cart Information Question

Hello and thanks for any replies.
I am having trouble obtaining information on shopping cart systems and need a little help. I have built a few sites but have never implemented a shopping cart. I am currently building a site and need to input over 750 products (pics and descriptions). The site is an online nutritional supplement store. The owner already has a merchant account with the physical store he now runs.
I looked into MEVA and the best price I could find was around 300.00. I know there are free carts out there also, however I need something that looks professional and is easy to use. Ease of set-up is also a concern, I have lots of products to input and would appreciate any short cuts anyone could offer in that area also. I am using Dreamweaver MX.
Thanks Again

Here is a search for shopping carts. Might be a free one here.

I've installed a bunch of different carts, and we're using Miva at the moment for one of our sites (3rd party processor that only provides their service through their own Miva cart application.)

Personally, the best cart I've used, hands down, is x-cart (www.x-cart.com). It is really easy to install, unbelievably flexible and configurable, and has an amazing feature set, including support for coupons, multiple pricing structures, newsletter, member rating/review system, and lots of other add-ins.

It also supports just about every transaction gateway on the planet.

I was worried about support (the developers are in Russia) but have been amazed at how quickly and accurately they've helped resolve problems (which have been very few and far between).

It runs in PHP, costs about 200 bucks, I think, and I had it up and running, with a handful of items, in under 2 hours from install to ready to take orders.

I know a lot of people like Miva, but it seems really cumbersome to me, and it also seems to lack (or else I can't find them) some of the features that x-cart has. Plus, your host has to already be running Miva Empressa on their server, which means you can't just (as far as I know) buy the Miva Merchant script and install it.

Hope that helps.

We tried different carts and finally developed our own. It's the best for us.

Until they catch you selling adult products.

Then, they close your account without warning, and freeze all the funds in your account for 6 months.

And they DO catch you... voice of experience.

Thanks for all the replies. I found a company called King-cart which is very cheap and the support is great. It should work fine for now.

I've been using oscommerce, and I'm beginning to be sorry- with all the functionality it offers, there are still not real decent template systems- I haven't been able to impliment any of the four offered sucessfully.
And, of course, the support is forum based, and sometimes you can catch someone helpful and sometimes your questions get buried beneath the hundreds of questions being posted at the same time.
