It seems these two just cant get enough of each other I have coded in both these two lanuages and as far as am concerned, Php has become the better option for dynamic 'websites' and I stress the word websites because I feel Perl is still the better opion for more robust web applications and software programs with a web interface. I dono what you guys think of these two.

I think that PHP is more popular than perl so it's better to learn it...

exactly - you're a smart one...

both of them have their own strengths and you just described them very well. i would add that asp sits in-between the 2 of them...

Yeyeye. I know most people love Php as it has become more popular than Perl, and at an alarming rate also. Though my fear is that hackers are going to stop coding in Perl for good. Imagine the world without Perl!! I will give you one good thing about Php. Its easy to learn, thats for sure. Da boss, I really dono about the asp thing :-) I think Asp comes after both of these two guys. But then again, am an opensource freak so...

The right tool for the right job.

Take web based management for instance. PHP snmp cannot hold up to PERL's net::snmp module and used in conjunction with mod_perl you have a platform thats very very powerfull.

I love PERL because its a top language for systems administration BUT it can also do much much more. PHP for me is simply a web language (designed for the web).

I use php a lot but I would not use it for other tasks than web stuff.

I've program with both but for Web development PHP is better and easier. In PHP almost all the basic and most used functions are already available so you don't have to make them.

There are also many free open source Php scripts out there compared to Perl. I guess thats because Perl is tougher to code than Php hence less hackers are willing to do it for free!
