Hiding a layer with Javascript?

I'm setting up a hierarchy menu that is in Javascript, but when the submenus drop over a select box, the box bleeds through and the link that is supposed to hover over it disappears. Is there a way to use a command to hide anything within div tags or something when it is hovered over?

Please Help!
