How many languages are out there? I am not familiar with Ruby but doing some digging around, Ruby is a dynamic, open source programming language with a focus on simplicity and productivity. It has an elegant syntax that is natural to read and easy to write.

Hmm, Ok. So what is Python? Python is a dynamic object-oriented programming language that has strong support for integration with other languages and tools, comes with extensive standard libraries, and can be learned in a few days.

So as a webmaster myself, I have been using perl and php as my main languages. The question to you is, between Ruby and Python, which one would you choose to write a webpage that needs to connect to a mysql database?

Peace

You may also find a code snippet to use or use as an example of what you want to do.

Basically for webmaster, you are not concerned with the languages itself but the webapp frameworks.

There are tons of crap Ruby and Python frameworks, so try to compare the languages with frameworks are like comparing apples and oranges.

I recommend you to try:
- Django for Python, and
- Ruby on Rails for Ruby

I personally like Django better. The codes are cleaner plus there are a lot more useful Python libraries than Ruby... especially XML stuff and screen scraper stuff like BeautifulSoup.

But, RoR got all the hypes these days. So check them out and see which one you like better.
