Hello,

I am trying to install PHPNUKE on a domain and I get this error. I can't find the help necessary to solve this problem. I have a Linux box.

domain: saintlucifer.com
Error:
---------------------------------------------------
Warning: open_basedir restriction in effect. File is in wrong directory in /home/httpd/vhosts/saintlucifer.com/httpdocs/index.php on line 15

Fatal error: Failed opening required '/mainfile.php' (include_path='.:/usr/share/pear') in /home/httpd/vhosts/saintlucifer.com/httpdocs/index.php on line 15
---------------------------------------------------

Please help me with this someone. I appreciate it.

Sounds like the files are not in the correct directory. Check the files mentioned and make sure they are in thier proper place.

Nope...I'm hoping someone in here will recognize the error because it appears to be some kind of server setting. For example, in some Google searches, I find some threads that mention the PHP.INI file on the server. To edit it and then restart Apache.

But, this hasn't worked. In fact, the weird thing is...

There is a line in the INDEX.PHP file at the top:

require_once("/mainfile.php");

If I take out the "/", I get more errors than just those mentioned here. More of the same type.

It seems like it's path related, but I'm sure of the files' locations.

I'm stumped

When you remove the slash do you get more errors of the same kind, getting files? If so it may be because all of them have slashes when they shouldn't. Though I really don't know, never used php-Nuke to much.

This error is due to your host setting the open_basedir in php.ini.
Quote:
; open_basedir, if set, limits all file operations to the defined directory
; and below. This directive makes most sense if used in a per-directory
; or per-virtualhost web server configuration file. This directive is
; *NOT* affected by whether Safe Mode is turned On or Off.
;open_basedir =
Its could also be due to a bug in one of the latest PHP builds, either way you should bring it up with your host.

Yes, Chroder, that's the info I saw. I went into the PHP.INI file and saw that it was already commented out which really freaked me out. I was hoping that I would have to comment it and then have success, but that wasn't the case.

I think you may be right about the PHP build or the latest linux kernel. I hear alot about keeping them up to date and I've never done any of this in the 4 months I've had the server (I am the admin).

I guess my next step is to try and see what is needed with regard to updating my builds. Is it easy? Do you know of a site with good info on performing this?

Thanks for your help, folks!
