I tried searching for a similar topic but could not find one. I am seeking advice.
I have used Joomla and vBadvanced etc. and are all excellent products!
However, I am working on a new project that is going to require a EXTREMELY advanced CMS and cost is not an object.
I am willing to consider PHP or other types of programming languages to get this job done. The site will be a sports site that features daily content and probably video as well (although the video wouldn't necessarily need to be a part of the CMS features).
I guess what I am asking is what are some of the very best high end content management systems out there?
very best? i have also used all the freebies, and would never pay for a cms. i vote for e107 excellent cms, powerful, secure, and has a good community of contributors.
Typo3 was a very impressive system for me, but far too complex, so I opted for Joomla on my next endeavour.
Cost? Cost is not an object anyway, as the best CMS systems are free. The learning curve is usually the obstacle. You can have the BEST CMS system in the world, either for free or for a million dollars, but if you don't know how to use it, it will be worthless.
It only takes a few minutes to set up Drupal, and a few more to select a theme that you like. Maybe a few more to tweak the css to your liking...
I found Drupal very easy to use... much more intuitive than others like Geeklog or Joomla. Very short learning curve, and a few books on Amazon to help if need be, as well as thousands of users on their helpful forum.
Dang, I sound like a Drupal biggot now don't I...
Seriously though, it was such a breath of fresh air that I converted almost all of my sites to using it.

There are some great suggestions here but, the question is a little generic. Every CMS system is the best for some domain.
The first thing you need to do is define exactly what your requirements of the CMS system are. Here, you need to spend some serious time, and generate a very explicit list. Then you need to prioritize the features in some manner like: can't live without, required, would be nice.
Then try to find systems that fit in the model you have defined.
