How to build a complex menu?

Hi everybody,

i'am searching for a programm or way to make a slightly more complex menu for a website. The main problem is, that i don't want to use flash for it. The menu should be set up with one mainmenu and a slide out submenu. Both the main- and the submenu should be capable of roll over effects. So the mainmenu is allways displayed with, for expample a listing of aviable products. When moving the mouse over one of the products, the name is highlighted. By clicking on one of the aviable options a submenu slides out beneath the main menu to the right side. Here you can go to diferrent options aviable for the chosen product. Another roll over highlight effect will apear while going over the individual submenupoints. The submenu will be permanently displayed unless you choose another product from the main menu, than the submenu will slide back to the left and another submenu will slide out afterwards.

So if anybody knows a programm capable of this and it's not flash, please name it. Otherwise every tutorial für Java-Script or other basic programming ways are welcome.

Thx Cat_Toaster

The solution you are looking for is CSS... with CSS you can create drop down menus and sub-menus that will change over when you hover above them with your mouse. You will need to add a line or two of Javascript to make it compatable with IE though, but that isn't hard.

Just do a Google search on "CSS dropdown menu" and you can download some free style sheets so you won't need to hand code it yourself.

Suckerfish dropdowns are very good.

I have a little lab section on my site that includes a sucker fish menu with background images. I searched the world trying to find something and decided to make my own.

Close, but I think you meant to say "the world hates flash." It's not even installed on my machine, and that alone is half an ad-blocker. The only people who are ever impressed by flash is other flash programmers.

Actually I'm being a little pedantic, it's not as bad as all that. But it's still pretty bad though. You're smart to avoid it.

Smart to avoid it for the primary means of navigation through the site
