I know of a couple of ways:
1) Client could ftp .txt files to a directory for page designed to look for txt files in previously mentioned directory - for its page content (quickly over my head with the details there) by using flash or javascript... archiving would present some headaches ... quickly moving into databases and the even further from the world of being user friendly.
or...
2) www.blogger.com (or any other weblog service out there) I use blogger because - blogger is free - it can be hosted on your site - or theirs - archives are optional, as are the number of days displayed on the webpage - posts may be made by using the google toolbar, the blogger.com website, or even from the end users site - you can code html into the text design - you can also upload images inline to the blog.
The creative part is how you'd integrate the blog into the site design... they have a number of templates to start with, or the whole look can be created from scratch... if you know html.
Please let me know if this was of any help...
