Hi guys, I hope I'm posting this in the correct section.

For the past few days I've been trying to figure out a way to insert a flash object into my website. The problem is, I need it to do the following:

1) Must not use any javascript.
2) Must check the version of the users installed flash player.
3) If flash player is NOT installed or is lower than version 8.x.x.x display alternate content (or at least redirect to another page).

I hope this is possible. I've tried a lot of different methods during my hours and hours of testing but the only way I was able to come close to my goal was by using javascript (which enabled me to do everything EXCEPT... the "no javascript" thing)


So now I turn to you guys and hope for the best

well there is BUT it will only work for Internet Explorer, and that is to use client side VbScript. However this will leave every other browser with an error.

BTW you can download the Adobe Flash Detection Kit or you can use the method in SEO Friendly Flash

That's too bad that this can only be done with the use of javascript

I tried Adobe's Flash Detection Kit but I think SWFObject is better (that's what I'm using now). It does a good job but I was hoping to find a way to eliminate it since a lot of people have javascript disabled. And plus my whole site is javascript-free and it sucks that I have to add javascript for merely embedding a flash movie

And I absolutely need the javascript in order to prevent people with an old version of flash player from viewing the flash (as it doesn't play nice with a version less than 8.0 )

Oh well, thanks for the quick reply chrishirst. Hopefully one day there will be a solution to this madness.
