my forum is Funoverfun.com and i dont know a bit about backlinks of papular directories. i think it helps to get better position in search engines.
I have some questions about it. if anyone can make it clear.

IM using SMF forum. now do i have to put links on my homepage?
or i can make any page like Links and put links there.

do i need any script or just paste the code given when i registered to any directory.

or i need to install any directory script?

There are a lot of good free directories that don't require backlinks, you may try out those first.
