Dear friends:

I am developing a site at:

http://www.immortalgems.com

If you look at the home page, you will see a discrepancy in the way IE and Netscape 7 render the fonts in the middle column of the second tier beginning with:

"Launched on the Internet in 1999...

This jewelry site is based on several templates but it has been edited exclusively with Dreamweaver MX.

As you can see, the font looks great in IE but small in Netscape. Is there any way to compensate or fix this?

My site comes with an external css file:

http://www.immortalgems.com/sft.css

Would really appreciate your help.

Thank you.

Benjamin

I think that seeing your using CSS there no reason for the font tags at all and the spot you pointed out has font tags:

class="bod"><p align="justify"><font size="2">

When this will give you the same result without the font tags:

class="bod"><p align="justify">

When using CSS with dreamweaver don't use the property inspector to fomat your font do it all through the Style Sheet Hope this helps

Dear SteveHarro:

Thanks so much for your generous help. You were absolutely right. I removed the font formating as you suggested, then found the part in the sft.css file that concerns "bod". It is set by default to Sans Serif, 10 point. So, I changed it to 16 point. That seems to correspond to the font size= +2 that I had earlier added in the Property Inspector. Of course, I'll have to adjust the text everywhere to accomodate the new setting, but that is the way I want it for this site.

Thanks so much.

Dear Steve Harro:

I've been playing with Dreamweaver for the past two hours after changing the font size in the sft.css file. My site is based on a template I purchased from BoxedArt, and the whole site is based on this default Sans Serif 10 point font size. When I change it to 16 point in the CSS file (the equivalent to font size="2", the entire site is out of joint and it really isn't worth it trying to adjust every section of every page to the new font size. I think in this case it might be better to keep the 10 point font size in the CSS and just change the font size in the "Launched..." box. It looks great in IE and OK in Netscape. Naturally, I would like for it to look great in all browsers, but my options are limited. Is there any other workaround you know of? Is there any way to indicate specifically one font size for IE and another for Netscape 7 or other browsers?

Thank you so much.

First thing to do is back up your site just incase this has the wrong affect. Then you need to remove the font tags altogether to do this at the top of dreamweaver go to COMMANDS then CLEAN UP HTML a box will appear with a few options tick the one that says SPECIFIC TAGS and type font in the text field and click OK that will remove all the FONT TAGS from the page.If as you say your using a template and the changes are made to it.When you save this should update site wide.Then all future changes to the look of the site can be made with just the Style Sheet.This should make it more cross browser compatible.Hope this helps GOOD LUCK

Dear SteveHarro:

Thanks so much for the good advice. I will consider doing this but I am little afraid of how that will affect everything else on the site. But thanks for mentioning the Clean Up function in Dreamweaver. I see that there are many other Clean Up options as well. Will experiment and see what works.

You can UNDO it if it's not what you want.Try it out on a test page first to see what I mean.

Dear Steveharro:

Yes, of course, there is always the option of undoing (and redoing). Will experiment and see what comes up.

Thanks again.
