What would be the best script to use for a website for reviews?

In my ideal website, there would be categories and subcategories. I would want it to have two separate rating systems, one by the author, and one by readers, and then users should be able to search by ratings, categories, keywords, etc.

Is there any script or CMS that could easily be modded to do this or do I have to get one custom-made?

Is PHP Nuke easy to mod, and does it have plugins and mods that would meet the ranking stuff that I am looking for?

I want something relatively lightweight and not too resource hungry like Joomla. I'll check it out and see.

thanks!

PHPNuke is fairly straight forward, there are many mods out there and getting help with them is quite simple. Just watch out when trying to add mods to the phpbb portion of it, most phpbb mods will not work with phpNuke

By phpbb I am assuming you mean the forum? I would not be using phpbb, just need the content part of it for the reviews.

Not at the moment. I just want to post reviews of different things on the site, give them my rating, and then have the readers give their ratings, with comments. I want the user to be able to search for items by category, by my rating, and by reader ratings, with the option to sort by highest rated, keywords, etc.

I may want to add a forum later but in that case I would use SMF or vBulletin.

In that case I wouldn't suggest PHPNuke as the forum is an integral part of its functionality.

Thanks for the info, I didn't know that. The forum is definitely not a big part of the site, if at all. So what would you suggest as a good CMS for this kind of site?

Honestly, whatever Gamespot used was back before their own menu. It was something php but I guess I can't check now. That has always been a good setup (The scroll boxes for browsing reviews... does anyone know what I mean?)

Yeah, I remember that. I might have to custom code something... was hoping not to have to do that.

To begin with I thought they used a collection of mods from some php site-kit. Actually may have been cgi. Any how, they did a mod patch up to a pre-made with perhaps a little custom code to make their own layout and clean up functionality.

probably, though that one wouldn't be too terribly difficult to reproduce. I wouldn't try it myself

PHP-Nuke has had it's final release and I don't think he pays much attention to it anymore. Was the best in it's day but that's come and gone.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

If he doesn't want the forum then PHPNuke is functionally useless to him for a review site. I thought I heard of an organization making a PHP website kit. I thought that was quite the neat idea but I'm not sure what became of that.

And Galaxian is pretty much correct about PHPNuke. The team has very few plans to update as fas as I know which may also mean that there will be no upgrade to phpbb3.

Yeah, I did a trial install of PHPNuke and I don't think it's what I'm going after. Any other ideas of something that could work? I was thinking of trying to mod WP but there might be something easier out there?

As well as what I mentioned above.. security is an issue as well. With my installation of PHP-Nuke I have had many successful attacks that have taken the server down. Though my version is a few behind, the lack of updates to PHPNuke will rely on the community to maintain it. As time goes on, more security flaws will be exposed.

Thanks for your input. I definitely want something that is more reliable and without the security flaws. Of course it's important to monitor all apps but I don't want to have to babysit a CMS!
