Hi all,

I have just created my first website (sort of,) and one of the things I want to do if possible is to be able to access any website through my site. Basically, I can't access a few sites at work due to a proxy, so I'd like to be able to go to my site and type in a URL so that I can hit a restricted site. I've already talked one of our corporate IT guys into not blocking my site, so all I have to do is figure out how I can get my site to act as a intermediate when I want to browse a restricted site. I assume that this is possible, but I have NO idea how to do it. Thanks in advance for all your help!!!

To the forum admin : Sorry if I posted this in the wrong place...

I think an iframe might make that possible. But I'm not sure...

<iframe src="http://www.google.com"></iframe>

But I don't know if that's true or not... maybe someone else can actually you with that one.

You should be working when you're are work though... not goofing off and surfing the web.
There's my word of parently advice...

IFrames do not bypass proxies. It's not something that can be coded in HTML. It requires an actual proxy server that will fetch the pages for you. Plus, bypassing proxies is considered a break of computer ethics which can usually result in being fired or suspended (if you're in school).

So, if I want to be able to bypass the proxy I would need my own proxy server? I have no problem with this, assuming that I don't have to pay an arm and a leg. Oh and for the record, I'm not attempting to goof off at work. I'm a computer tech, and my corporate network admins are morons. For example, I need to access Apple's website because I repair Mac's as well as PC's, and our network admins know this, but yet they still have Apple's website blocked. Hell, until I figured out a soloution, they had all FTP access blocked, which of course meant that I couldn't download drivers from pretty much any motherboard manufacturer, as well as Compaq, HP, Linksys, etc. The bottom line is that they don't give me the tools I need to do my job. Of course, I would like to be able to goof off I wanted to , but honestly...I don't have the time.

If I don't mind setting up a proxy server, than what would my next step be?

Thanks again for all your help!!!

If you are running apache, then you can use mod proxy. Check out - http://httpd.apache.org/docs/mod/mod_proxy.html
