Hallo Web Masters, my first laptop was IBM Think Pad 520 (233 MHz) and now I'm finally throw em in the lumber-room. But I'd like to use its hard disc in new one IBM Think Pad laptop wich I intend to buy. My question is: can I put this old HD in any type of new Think Pad regarding the connector on the rear side of HD or this HD can accept just particulary types of new Think Pads and (if it is) wich type of Think Pad I have to buy. Thanks! Best Regards, emienco

You may be able to use it, but it's not sure.

I have a relatively recent Toshiba laptop (1 year) that use serialATA.
My wife have another laptop, but almost 2 years, and that one use IDE, so we cannot swap the ard disk between the 2 laptop.

But if they connectivity is identical, except if the disks have a special format, any 2 1/2" disks should fit into the laptop.

Thanks Tripy, I know that IBM use 21/2" HD's and in new models but I'm worry about order of connection pins on the connection slot. If the order of pins is same at old and new models there will not be problems (I'm pretty good in computers HW and I can't imagine reason for changing of pins order at new models). Best wishes to you and your family. Have a nice time and thanks again, emienco

I dont think that it would work, ecspecially on such an older model. Can I ask why you want to use a harddrive like that in a newer model?

Hello Josiah, thanks for your opinion but interesting is that and traders can not answer me this question (OK they aren't experts in computers HW/SW). Also, you can ask me anything you want there is no problem. Well, on this HD I got some "ticklish" photos (don't include me at once into the group of pedophiles because we - males - got a lot of so-called "ticklish" choices, hope you'll understand it). So, I got some special cable to translation from 21/2" HD's on normal HD's (ATA) but his connector not passed on the IBM connector (this is cable for Toshiba laptop HD's). Therefore I'm lookin' for new IBM Thimk Pad but important is that I can insert this old HD into. Anyway, thanks again and I hope you'll visit my site once, maybe you'll like it. Best wishes to you and your family and greetings from Croatia, emienco.

yes it will fit fine. all laptop hard drives (old and new) have the same kind of hard drive connection, so you could just take the hard drive out of one machine, and pop it into the new machine.

Hallo Andy, thank you for VERY concrete answer. I'm suppose it but some friends are try to convince me that problem could be fatness (high) of the old drives in comparison with newest because newest laptops are in some measure thinny than older models. But from yours resolute answer I can conclude that you got strong experience in this and I really appreciate it. As I see from presented services in address line you got a lot of job and I wish you successful and dynamic work. Have a nice time. Best Regards, emienco.
