Plz help me out...

i purchased a new laptop from HP

whats the need of recovery discs???

i have win VISTA in it..
nd i wanna install win xp

so if in future i want to install win vista can i install it from my recovery disc??

nd i have only 1 partition i.e only root drive having windows...
nd if the windows got crashed should i recover my other data from C DRIVE (i.e. Songs pictures etc)....
or i make a new partition for my own personal documents???

suggest me out plzzzz

Create a new Partition. Do not store your important data on the same partition as Windows.

No, this is not true.

But your data is not protected from virus on a different partition. You should do backup on external disks.

Your recovery disks mainly contain the OS, which in your case is Vista, drivers and any software that was pre-installed on your laptop. Your going to downgrade and go to Vista, you will need to format your HD because I've heard of problems installing over the top of Vista. But all this depends on your version of XP you have. If you purchased the copy of XP then you shouldn't have a problem. However, if your version of XP is OEM, in other words to came with another machine, you may have problems with drivers.

If you are downgrading because you can't network your XP machine with Vista (judging on your other thread, that is what I think you are going), then I wouldn't bother. You probably have some settings incorrect.

PS. Can you please use full English, ie. use and instead of nd. I find it difficult to understand what you are saying.

ya the main reason is that i cant lan my both pc's..

I have 1 partition having vista.
and if i install win xp and make new partition also..
and in future if i use my recovery discs id the partition i made my self reamins or the whole hardisk becomes 1 partitioned (like the default company settings).
