I'm guessing he's referring to a CRT as in LCD technology you dont'get the flicker effect. You might try to crank up the refresh rate. It can help, it can also damage your monitor if it's set too high.
How long have you had that CRT (If its a CRT)? Personally I'd stick by the 'If it ain't broke don't fix it' approach. But if you have some spare cash you can pick up a 17" or 19" TFT for dirt cheap prices nowadays - it's a space saver and will do your eyes a favour too
its just a CRT, actually I have 2, and it also has a problem. It turns on but doesn't show the desktop features, I mean all black . . . guess what, its new . . .and got stock for a few months after given to me . . .
yah! I'm thinking about to buy a new one!

lol well I think this is a fairly one sided debate, TFT screens now have the majority market so most of them will get phased out and no longer be used. But does anyone have any useful or original suggestions for what we can do with old CRT's?
i think your monitor cable has error on it's harware or pin, which need more tense to the graphic card.. also the power cord should be change to make sure your monitor is suitable with the power voltage
Maybe your monitor having a problem on 'electron gun' which inside your monitor . When this problems occurs .. We can't do anything .. My advice.. Buy a new one!
I dind't have problems like this before. Its in the eyes where the refresh rate is set to 65, it does tend to bother me. I would suggest to lessen the resolution and add the refresh rate as it will remove this effect, LCD's don't

If its blinking and the refresh rate doesn't effect the blinking then buy a new monitor, you're staring at it all day, are your eyes really worth less than $200 ?
