A friend emailed me this, I think it came from Slashdot?

Quote:
Just to let you guys know, Windows Vista SP1 has been released today onMarch 18, 2008. You can download it as an installer from the MicrosoftDownload Center directly or you can try to download it from Windows Update. If your going to download it from Windows Update, be advised that it couldtake you about 10 or more refreshes in order for the update to show up.Windows Vista SP1 includes all updates, extra features, performanceupdates, and SP1 will try to disable OEM BIOS hacks. If you haven't bought Windows Vista yet but you are planning to, all of theWindows Vista editions will include SP1 slipstreamed with them. No need todownload it manually. To download Windows Vista SP1 and read the enhancements and warningsregarding the Service Pack, go here:Microsoft Download Center
Emphasis mine.

Now I've heard Vista doesn't have all the bugs worked out, for 2.5 years. And that it'll be more welcome when SP 1 hits. Well, that's happened, so I'm curious to hear from Vista users, what do you think?

I've never touched Vista myself, and I don't plan to. Moreover, I'm not alone. I think there are more XP users than Vista ones? Well, it turns out Microsoft is planning to release their next consumer OS next year, code name Vienna.

Vista just became Windows ME (Millennium Edition). It's a joke OS. A make lots of money really quick and leave consumers holding the bag operating system. Anyway, that's what ME was, but it looks like Vista is suffering the same fate?

And still no Longhorn.

Hello,
Well I will say this. I was not a huge fan of Vista when it first launched, because I used it as a home Operating System, and it just seemed like there was WAY to much security put in to be a good Home Operating System. But, then I learned how to disable some of the security such as UAC, and other things. ANd it started to become an okay operating system for home use.

Then, I am a huge gamer and with Vista running Direct X10, I found it to be a problem with alot of games that I was playing until my games came out with pathces that aloud them to be support by DirectX10, and then it became a better Operating System for me.

I have heard still alot of problems out of the 64bit OS. BUt honestly I belive that this SP1 update has really fixed alot of the problems and bugs that I saw. Now as you said they are not all fixed, but I have 5 computers and only one (My laptop) is running Vista, I really believe that within the end of the year I will have vista on all my computers.

I think you may be right on the Vista-ME comparisson. I was looking forward to Vista when I first heard about it. We bought a laptop last year which had Vista pre-installed and I am not impressed with it. We bought a pc with XP installed just before Vista came out, so we got a free upgrade to Vista with it. Needless to say my pc will not be upgraded to Vista.

As for SP1: Strangely enough there's not much buzz on this update as when SP2 came out for XP. This is the first I heard that SP1 is out. I will probably update the laptop as I like to keep things up to date, but I hope MS has something better in store with their next OS.

Just a thought...if Vista is compared to ME, then will Windows 7 be compared to XP?
I think I am going to hop on the 'Vienna' bandwagon.
