I guess I want to buy new laptop for my sister. Can you guys list down the best brand of laptop currently which is more stable and cost effective.

That's a hard question! Im not a technogeek by any means but I've heard Toshiba Laptops are pretty stable and affordable. I have a sony vaio which costs around $1000 but has a good amount of RAM and a good size hard drive.

For the hardware, I would prefer more RAM, say 2GB over a high end CPU. For the pre-installed operating system, why not try MAC or Linux. Forget all about Vista, it did not click in the masses anyway.

I recommend the following:

2 gigs of ram
Intel Core 2 processor
150GB hard drive
Windows Vista Home Premium
Standalone video card

That should get you pretty far.

It really depends on what she's going to use it for. Different laptops are good for different types of work. People into music and art seem to love the Macs, but if she's a internet freak then get her something else.

My best advice would take her to a store that has a long isle of different laptops and let her try out different ones. You can also figure out options and price there.

I don't like the dell laptops, they just don't seem to last, well thats been my experience atleast.

Acer and Asus has been the best proven price to performance ratio. As they are also one of the best laptop brands out there, you can get the best community support for it. that is the one you really need because when you will eventually have laptop problems specific for your model, you can get help easily as compared to other cheaper brands but lack community or even less manufacturer support.

what the TS wants is a cheap and stable laptop. Asus is one of the leading manufacturers of computer products to date. Any of their mid to enthusiast laptops will be perfect.

go for hp....i got 1 for almost 3 years and still its working...

Go With Toshiba. They Have a reputation of being one of the best brand laptops. They will not get cracked cases or have keys fall off like cheap dells. And if they did, Toshiba will Fix it quickly. toshiba are good quality laptops, however toshiba laptops are more expensive than dells. But you Get what you pay for.
