If a computer with 2 CPUs can't play a CD, I don't think 4 or 8 chips is going to do any better. My guess is you have a bad audio driver?

I would have to agree. Ripping a dvd maybe, but you shouldn't have problems ripping a cd.

Are you using the same program to rip and to play the music? Are you trying to play the CD that you are ripping?

just a question....
Are you trying to lisetn to the cd you are ripping at the same time ?

Because if it is, no matter what, even a 2 millions $$ computer won't fix that.
A cd drive has 1 reading "head", and it cannot read at one place and another at the same time, hence the "shuttering" if you do so...

Cd seek times are sloooooow. An hard disk is about 3~4 ms (and have a dozen of heads) when a cd can take up to 1.5 seconds to a full seek.

Yeah. Also there could be some current running through your tower and this makes noises in your audio. Some time ago I heard the disc rolling throught my speakers due to this. Check insulation.

im using windows media player to play music while i used nero 7 for ripping cds...so do you think that if i added an sound card or maybe used a different audio driver i wouldn't had a experience a stuttering audio while while running wmp and nero at the same time?

With what you are doing, you still should not be experiencing any hiccups.

You running vista? I would suggest going through your processes, services, and start-up programs and try to trim the resources your computer is using. There are a few other lightweight programs that can do ripping too, but I have never had problems ripping/burining and watching video/music on computers with 1/2 your specs. I didn't use nero for ripping, but did use it for burning and never had a problem, so I would do so exploring into what is using up your memory before I bought a new computer.

Don't get an Intel.
Go for AMD.
Get Transcend RAM.
Get only a Samsung or LiteON DVD Writer.
Get only a Seagate or Hitachi HDD, Western Digital truly sucks.

AMD is ten hundred million times better than Intel.
Also, I suggest you use Sonic RecordNow! instead of Nero.

What? AMD is not better than Intel by any means. If you're looking to keep the system for a longer time, get a cheap quad core from Intel. If you want a two core CPU, hit up something in the 2.5GHz area. That would be a good jump from what you have right now. Intel has plenty of budget solutions.

You should check out maybe dell or something and look at one of there higher model configured computers to purchase. Or try checking some classifieds online, there are a lot that have people who get good deals from dell reselling computers
