Hi,
I am thinking of converting from a windows based PC to an Apple Mac and wondered how good Apple's and Apple Software is for web design and associated tasks.
I know that the latest MACs come with a dual partition so it is still possible to run windows based software on them.
However, I curious to know how good MAC's are and MAC software is for web design if I only wanted to use these products?
Thanks
Jimbob

I can't say this is coming from experience, but I've been told (by people who, like myself, are very big fans of Apple) that its just not as good using MACs for design. I can imagine there would be some compatability issues, but like I say, I haven't actually tried it myself

this all comes down to which ur a fanboy of. windows lovers will say OMG WINDOWS ROOL and mac lovers will say OMG APPLE FTW.
you have to look at it logically; on windows, you'll be able to test whatever you're designing on a platform that 90% of the population (or w/e the number is) uses. you'll also have access to some nifty free programs that will only work on windows that would make your life infinitely easier (<3 WAMP).
i personally prefer windows, so i'm just gonna say "WINDOWS WIN AND MACS SUCK."
but i logically suggest using a windows to develop the site and then do a final test with BOTH so that you can be sure that it works on both platforms the way you want it to.

As a designer you need Adobe stuff which is available for both windows and macs
but windows system are cheaper and millions of software are there..
IMO save some money and buy Windows anyways MAC sucks

This stems from the very old Mac vs. PC camp. Back in the 'old days' Mac's WERE better at graphics, but their edge has eroded to nothing since PC's have largely caught up with Macs in power, speed and video cards.
If you've got a lot of PC software you like to use (other than graphics), you may have trouble getting the same software for a Mac.

For graphic design its all prety much the same. If your going to design high qaulity graphics then its all up to your video card and monitor and most of all your imagination. Now your asking yourself what about the code based part of web design which OS is better right? Well it does not matter as long as your using a code that is compatible with both Windows and Mac based OS's. It does NOT matter. I personnally design on a windows but i keep a mac around to make sure all my designs are compatible. I dont want to leave any user out in the cold specially if i was selling a product or a service on my site.

The Designer matters, whether it's Apple or PC, it is the designer that matters. Not really the tools he/she uses.

It really doesn't matter, web design is more about your personal commitment.

As a Mac and PC owner, I use Windows based platform for my web design stuff. I have some friends who are professional web designers, and they use Mac's. So I really think it's a matter of preference and what your used to using. Both can get the job done!

I personally use neither Windows or Mac, I'm a Unix fanboy (and I can still run Dreamweaver and Photoshop in *nix via Wine). It really doesn't matter whether you use Mac or Windows for web development though. Adobe's Creative Suite is available for both operating systems, and works pretty much the same in both of them as well. Also, all this talk about using windows so that you can test your websites on a platform that everyone uses is rubbish, you can just install Safari in windows to see what Apple useres will see when visiting your site, and likewise, you can install Firefox and IE in Macintosh to test what the majority of windows users will see.
Also, it is just as easy to get a developement web server running in Mac as it is in Windows.

This is false! When designing any web site you should always use multiple computers with various monitor sizes and video cards. This will insure prefection and make sure your not putting anyone out in the cold. When installing safari to windows all the browser plug-ins are windows based and come from microsoft where as you install in on mac and it is all mac based plug-ins.I use VB for my web design. If i didnt use a mac to test it half the stuff i develope wouldnt be compatible with mac until i remodel a lil after viewing it on my mac.

Hi,
Back when I was getting my Graphic Design degree we used Mac computers. Now that I'm a freelance web designer I design all my work on a custom built computer. I think Macs have there good points but, I'm a PC lover. I know boooooooo PC. I do however wish I did have the money to invest in a Mac computer. It will just give me something to save money towards and look forward to.

i used to have a pretty nice PCs but since few months i was looking for a Mac, i finally changed 2 months ago for the New MACBOOK Pro (2.6Ghz, 4GB, HD screen, 200Go 7200T) and i wanted to install windows on it.
After just few hours on my MAC, i forgot the idea to run this **** windows...
You can turn to MAC at 100%...all the best deisgners and webdesign studio are using MAC...

PC(windows).
Everything(nearly) done on a mac can be done on a windows machine. Its cheaper, and runs everything you need for web development. So...stick with that.
A mac just pretty! If you like eye candy go with that.

I suggest you to go with the mac if you are comfortable with it. Otherwise, you have the ubiquitous option - the PC
