Not sure where else I would post this

I'm wondering if some of the members here would recommend their favorite Screen/Image Capturing Tool and/or their favorite Screen/Recorder Tool

lemme' clarify...

the first tool captures images directly from your screen, to your computer.

while the second tool records whatever you do online. You see this tool being employed in places such as Paypal.com, where they walk you through the differant pages of their site in real-time (used heavily in Web-tutorials)

I'm sure I could Google some, but I thought i'd ask some of the computer-saavy persons what THEY thought was better than others.

Oh...

and if you could also recommend the best FREE anti-virus/spy-sweeping software, that would be awesome too

Free screen capture - there's an awesome Addon for Firefox called Fireshot, lots of options, works like a charm if you just want to capture what's in your browser. There are a few free screen capture programs but in my experience the free ones lack a lot of functionality. SnagIt is really good and fairly cheap.

Free anti-virus - try AVG from Grissoft. Spy sweeper - AdAware and Search and Destroy are both free.

I feel a little silly adding this, but just in case you did not know. On your keyboard located typically between the f12 and the Scroll Lock button is a button called "Print Screen". Pushing this button will take a screen shot of whatever is visible on your monitor. Just push the button when you see what you want and then paste it into the editing software of your choice. Depending on your editing software you can have quite an array of options. Paint is already installed on you Windows OS. You can just open it up click "Edit" then "Paste" and whatever was on your monitor when you hit "Print Screen" appears. IrfanView is a nice little freebie to use for editing, if you do not have a nice paid-for photo editor. With the editing software you basically do the same thing I describe with paint, tap the "Print Screen" button and paste it into your editing software. It will not capture things moving around, but it is simple, easy doesnt require any extra installs, and is free.

Don't feel silly about it , 'cos that's all I do
Well sometimes I have to press "F Lock" because I have a M$ keyboard with some extra functions on the "F" keys that switches itself on exactly when I don't want it to and gets in the way!!!!

I'll see your IrfanView, and raise it with Gimp

Anti-Virus - Avast

Anti-Spyware - Adaware and SpyBot together! What one misses the other usually gets.

wow...

about that button, saves me a lot of trouble.

I was using a pretty cool (and FREE program) called "EasyCapture", but it's installer wasn't correctly installing. I had to keep running the install every time I wanted to use it the program, as the shortcut was not accessing the program.

Such a shame because it was a very cool program, and I think you should check it out just to give it a try.

I'm going to try Lady Red's suggestion on AVG first, as I used to use AVG a few years ago (I prefer Familiar terrain). But i'll definitely be taking Chris' suggestions on the Adware, sounds comprehensive.

lol, it didn't cross my mind to put this in the computer forum. I've been up for the past 19 hours and I was up for a little over 24 hours the day before reading up/practicing my PHP.

I keep getting to that point where I blank out and forget what i'm doing, so I have to keep reminding myself what i'm doing. I gave myself a pretty unrealistic goal to build a website for a friend and finish a site of my own within the next four days, so i've been pretty out of it lately. lol

Thank you guys again!

and...

I already got SpySweeper but my subscription just ended with them and I don't want to give them another 50-60 dollars if there's something out there that can do the same thing for no cost.

I use SnagIt version 8 to capture the screen shots and as suggested by chrishirst, avast is my favorite antivirus program

Best Free Anti-Virus- I would recommend you get 2 because usually one of mine don't get what the other one gets. I currently have avast and Bitdefender. I don't exactly like avast because it takes a very long time to scan but it scans files I download automatically, unlike Bitdefender. For anti-spyware, I just downloaded a-squared free and it seems so far so good.

Wink is free. It records what you do on the screen and outputs it into a flash file.
