about driver: orther devices(Base System Device
Network Controller)

what's that?

if don't have driver Network controller ,can't connect to the internet,
true or false

and what's Base System Device?

if your using a laptop it is built in just install the cd and it will auto run. yes your right it cant use it when theres no drive

Base system device is usually something integrated on your motherboard... built in sound/video card. If you have the CDs from your pc you should be able to get the driver from there. HP will also mail them to you if you call. Takes a few days though.. good luck

Your NIC might be controller or chipset based. You will need to add the driver as a controller first before the system recognizes your NIC. Nvidia chipsets are famous for this. Ensure your chipset drivers are up to date first, and then install the NIC driver not from the device properties itself, but from the control panel as a new device. Select network controller, and then point to the location of your driver.
