turn it over, remove ALL the screws, turn it back, shake it vigorously.

Seriously IF you can't manage to find the screws to open the case, you shouldn't be opening the case in the first place.

A speaker lead or trace might be broken. I would advise against trying to find it, you may snap or break other components. If you having a hard time opening it, the chasis may be deisiged to be opened by a special tool. You may snap hinges and locks if you don't know what you're doing. Even if you do get in and rip out the mainboard, it may not be easily replaced.

Try to go to compaq website (now HP) and try to find where the screws are. They might have a guide to change the speakers on your laptop.

It is too easy to over heat components when fixing issues so DON'T. If you don't have the proper equipment you may not like it when some other tech says you have to replace your laptop.

You can search the net and find how to open. I have found many sites who specialize in pictured step-by-step procedures on many makes and models. Even those more than 10 years old.

Opening laptops can be tricky and a pain, but I have yet to come across one that cannot be opened.

Usually there is one of 2 ways to tge first stage open.

1) The plastic plate at the base of the screen and above the keyboard with lift out with a little persuasion usually accessible from just above the top row of keys. When this is off, then your keyboard will lift out and expose further screws allowing you in to the belly of it. (similar to this: http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptop...te-1200-05.jpg)

2) Some times instead of it being the plastic plate it will be the keyboard itself that lifts out and as above it will then expose the rest of the screws you need to go further.
