I have been a TextPad user for many years, however a friend at work introduced me to Notepad++ and I found it to be great, but there are some UI issues that I can't get past and development is slow, so I have no idea if/when they'll be resolved.

I want something compatible with all the various web development languages, including Classic ASP (which is mostly what I use).

I just downloaded the UltraEdit demo a few minutes ago, but I'm looking for suggestions from people who do everyday web development. Also, I have Dreamweaver (I bought a big Adobe CS3 suite), but I've never tried it. Is it worth trying?

Thanks for your suggestions!

HTML Kit is the best edtior in my opinion, but again it's freeware and since I've stumbled upon it I've only used it.

I mostly use classic ASP also, and I use Visual Interdev. It's not free though, but you can get a copy real cheap off ebay.

I love Notepad++. I'd probably use UltraEdit if it was free, but it's not.

I highly recommend ultraedit. It supports many files for viewing. I also like the Search in Files function of ultraedit. It search thru every files very fast for keywords in hardcoded pages.

Love it so much... ^^

I use Crimson Editor which is pretty good for a basic editor.

I recently used the trial version of PHPed and really loved it so much easier when dealing with OO PHP. Whether you need that sort of thing or can afford it (its quite expensive which is a big downer for me) is a different matter!

I really like UltraEdit too... not exactly what I like so much about it, but it just fits my style and requirements very nicely. I think it's worth the $69 or whatever they are charging for it these days. I found it to be worth paying for.

I am using notepad++ as text editor. It is free and supports several languages. It is run on MS Windows environment, its use is governed by GPL Licence. Auto-completion, Multi-Document, Multi-View, Macro recording and playback, Bookmark etc are some of the features of notepad++.
