Adobe Audition (used to be Cool Edit Pro) Have used this when it was cool edit. (still do in fact). Excellent piece of software.
Cakewalk Used this years ago. Did what it needed to then and I assume it has improved.
and the ultimate is Cubase Friend who is a recording artist and record label & studio owner uses this. Absolutely awesome piece of kit!
Total overkill for what you need though 
plus there is lots of open source sound tools
Played briefly with Audacity on a friends home studio setup, seems pretty good.
