I have been paying a lot of attention to my web stats since my site was attacked recently.

This log entry shows up in Webalizer usage stats: Hits = 2847, Files = 0, KBytes = 0, Visits = 8, Hostname = c-68-55-140-135.hsd1.md.comcast.net.

So it seems this bot comes over every day or so and bangs around without really doing anything.

Can anyone tell me what exactly is going on here?

It's not a bot. It's a real person just browsing around your site.

I should have included more details in the original post.

My site was hijacked a couple of weeks ago, and I had to delete the entire thing and re-upload it. It was filled with porn pages by the hijackers. Hundreds of pages of porn, named in a similar fashion to my real site page and files. And all the porn showed up in the search engines immediately after the hijack.

I doubt is someone browsing the site. I should have mentioned the site is only one html page and many .mov and .swf files. There is no way someone could have hit the home page so many times, unless they were a bot...or something else.

Anyway, I am thinking this has something to do with email and spam - but I haven't been able to trace it yet.

Unfortunately, my hosting company (Lunar) is 100% completely worthless in helping me with security issues. So anyone with any ideas is welcome to chime in.

Bots wouldn't be using comcast IP host mask, so it's a real person. If you feel as if your website is being attacked in some way, you should call Comcast and tell them about the situation and inform them of the exact IP address of the offender.

I have that address (68.55.140.135) already blocked and it doesn't do any good. It hits my site several hundred times every day.

I just checked the log...it's now
Hits = 3557, Files = 0, KBytes = 0, Visits = 10, Hostname = c-68-55-140-135.hsd1.md.comcast.net.

68.55.140.135 has been blocked for over a week.

Banned users still count towards hits against your site, they just cant access the content inside.

Hmmm.

Then it's obviously some sort of script. Nobody would waste that much time.
