Hi,

Can someone recommend a good program for shutting down Windows XP home edition ? When I try to shutdown now the computer just hangs, been told there are better ways to shutdown than the Microsoft method.

You may try a software called Switch Off. It is small and easy to use.

I use Timedshutdown in XP when I want to turn off the computer at an exact time. You can try it too.

Maybe not a great idea to install file stealing software just to shut down your computer.
However, how would you shut down if you were not stealing products at the time.

Maybe you should look into why it hangs when you try to shut down rather than trying to find some software to shut it down faster.

Torrents get a bad rap. I've used torrents more than once to download legally (linux distros and such). It really is a great idea, it just happens to be a very good way to download copyrighted materials.

It would help to know why the computer isn't shutting down properly. I'm not sure what's wrong with the traditional ways of shutting down xp? Another vote for the power button here.

Computer is hanging during shut down indicates there is problem with the system soft ware. If this is the case then softwares for shut down also give you problems and may create worse. First scan for virus, may be some virus preventing you to shut down or try to repair XP.

Start > Run > type in Shutdown -t

Done.
