Hi,

Future thanks to all helpful responses.

I am renting my room to a stranger I met on Craigslist. I have a desktop and will need remote access to it while I'm out of the apartment. I am going to set up a different Windows XP account so the renter can use it.

Is there a way I can remotely log into my PC while he's logged into his account? Also, besides typical password requirements, what other security considerations should I be thinking about. I run my life on this PC and I run my account as Administrator.

I could load all necessary data to an external HD for use on a different PC so I dont have to 'remote' in, but I dont have time before I leave.

Thank you,
Peter

Right off the bat....Nothing is Secure if they have physical access to any machine. As for accounts. Do you have another user that you use that is a part of the Admin Group or Power User Group? Does the stranger-living-with-you have a normal account? Finally, why would you allow anyone that you do not know that close to your machine?

Windows XP only allows 1 session at a time where as Windows Server allows multiple sessions. If you use VNC you will likely end up fighting for the mouse.

if a shell is good enough, you can install an ssh daemon.

I run quite a few machines for Stanfords folding@home project and I control all of them with logmein.com (free) for the machines. You would have an account at logmein.com and then you can view the machines and if they are online. I've had good experiences with the free edition of logmein.com
