Corrupt Downloads Problem

Hi, i've had this problem before after formatting my laptop and looked around for solutions...never found one and it magically fixed itself, but now i've formatted my desktop and once againb this problem has appeared.

Basically I download something (such as AVG, Internet explorer 8, MSN etc) all the usual things that download and install fine, yet once the download completes i hit to install/run and it comes up with a security warning about an unknown publisher, and then says the file is corrupt.

I've managed to get firefox, IE8 and MSN working by fluke and persistence, but larger files such as AVG, Graphics drivers etc are still being corrupted.

I've been looking everywhere for a solution but haven't found one, any help would be great

Thanks

I have windows Vista on my laptop, but as i said, that's fixed itself and is now away being repaired for some other problem that it decided to have.

For my desktop, it has windows XP. I went to my brother's place and downloaded all the windows updates, motherboard drivers, ethernet drivers, graphics driver etc. It worked fine at his place, no downloads corrupting but now that i have it back here it's doing it again.

So, im thinking that it's having a problem with my router which is strange as it was fine before. The router didn't come with any drivers, so i ran the setup disk and no help there the router is a NETGEAR WPN824 v2 if anyone has had a similar problem or might know how to help

Strange, i just disabled the SPI Firewall on my router and the downloads are no longer corrupt...

Don't know why that made a difference though
