How is it? haven't used it personally myself.

I hope it's a huge improvment on what Vista should of been.
Any details? and when is it officially released?

Haven't tried it myself, but I believe it'll be October 22, 2009 for the release. The RC is at http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/w...ome?os=nonwin7 if you want to try it.

I have been using Windows 7 in evaluation for several weeks now, on a laptop (Dell VOSTRO with 2 gig of ram) and it runs noticably faster than XP did on the same machine and is a stable as windows 2000 ever was.

Finally an OS from MS worth using!

I am something of a luddite where Windows versions are concerned and continued to use Win2k throughout the XP and Vista periods simply because of the stability issues with both of them.
Windows 7 seems to have solved the problems and is IMO woth going for.

I agree with chrishirst Windows 7 is really surpasses Vista in terms of visual, features, and incompatibility on drivers. It runs faster than the memory hungry vista. I've downloaded the recent evaluation period and I guess I'm going to skip Vista and stayed with Windows 7. I guess when Windows 7 will be in stores gonna pick em up and replace my old aging Windows XP been using Windows XP for 4 years. It really need replacement and Windows 7 is the candidate for it.

I've played with an evaluation version on my friend's laptop and really liked the new features and enhancements. I would install it on my laptop as well but I'm afraid of having driver problems since I'm using a Sony Vaio which is known to have issues when doing clean installs. I'll just have to wait until later this year when they are shipped with Windows 7 pre-installed.

Use of system resources is vastly improved, and I think that's the best news about Win7.

I've had an issue with the 7 (understandable since it's a pre-release thing yet), but overall the definitive thing about it is that at least I don't hate it - unlike Vista, which I chose to skip.

It will all depend on whether you have a 64 bit machine or not.

You mustn't have 64bit machine, it is ok to have processor compatible to run 64bit or 32bit systems, like Pentium Quad or even Pentium Core 2 Duo.

I'm still running XP Pro on my laptop and occasionally on Parallels on my Mac. Primary reasons: Some must have software only runs on Windows, I still have a Jobs bunch of valid licenses, XP is reliable and reasonably fast. I'm in the market for a very fast laptop (considering something akin to an Alienware M17, but cheaper) and was hoping that Windows 7 would not suck. I will wait for Win 7 before I buy. So, this unbiased quick review is reassuring.

Windows 7...mixed breed of XP performance and Vista sexy looks.

What isn't to like about it? Possibly the best OS ever made by Microsoft right now.

Do I dare say, we may see a new MS that actually tests their product before releasing it to the public?
