Hi

Does anyone have problems with Norton as it seems to consume 80% of my cpu for hours on end and its really getting on my nerves.

What else could i use instead.

I have used Norton, Macfee, AVG, Avast, Kaspersky, Fixit. Among them for paid license Kasper is the best specially the Internet security edition. and for free version Avast is good one.

You are right about norton. It consumes too much resources of your pc. You should stop using this product.

I am using Norton anti virus program. It is a well known anti virus program . It provides good protection for PC against viruses, spyware, bots, worms, and more without slowing you down or getting in your way. Intelligence-driven technology identifies and targets only files at risk, for faster, less frequent scans.

Yea, go with Avast as the others have said. Norton is garbage anyway...

It is always a wise practice to match the software to about twice the minimum specs provided for the hardware. I run Norton on a 3 ghz dual core with zero problems.

Norton antivirus is one of the best and trusted ones but it takes a big load on the CPU usage when it scans your computer, so there are quite few good alternatives for Norton which can function similarly but put less load of the CPU.

Avast antivirus, AVG and Kaspersky are the 3 best alternatives. I've been using AVG in my netbook since months and it works perfectly well. Automatic updates, automatic scheduled scans and full-time spyware protection when you are connected to the internet. And it doesn't hit up much load on the RAM usage, as netbooks come usually with 1GB RAM and Norton antivirus doesn't fit in well for that.

Norton is a huge problem itself, so it's "normal" if you experience lots of problems using it.

I have been using AVG for a couple of years (free version) and have had no problems, I set my scan to happen in the middle of the night too.

Yes, AVG causes no problems because it doesn't detect viruses I have tested AVG on 2 computers (and they were really infected). AVG didn't find anything, while Kaspersky and PCCillin found and deleted viruses from system32 directory

Norton was designed to perform the ONLY task - slowdown your computer. I can't think of any other reason using this crap.
