There is no real need for a "registry cleaner" with the newer Windows OS's Windows 95 & 98 were the last systems that needed such a process.

Can you fill me in as I haven't kept up on registry stuff -- why don't Vista and 7 need registry cleaning? I'd think that bad software would leave unused keys and keys referencing non-existent files in all versions of Windows, so what am I missing?

"Registry cleaners" really made their appearance cleaning up the "DLL Hell" of Windows 95 created by a mish mash of poorly designed installers that buried DLLs in all kinds of strange places.
The use of standardised installers and uninstallers has now reduced the chaos.

The "clean up" routines that are now built into Vista & Windows7 (formerly Windows Defender and the "Malicious Software Removal tool" (XP SP2)) do a good job without the need for extra third party software.

Personally I haven't used any kind of registry cleaner since windows 2000 was released.
The only thing I do use occasionally is CCleaner to strip out the temporary files and cookies left by 5 or 6 browsers that can be in use for several hours a day.

I have used a few registry cleaners in many situations, I must say that a good registry cleaner solves 95% of Windows problems, It fixes dll and exe errors, it improves your computer performance, I say that from what I've seen.

Not that you would have a vested interest in saying so.

There are quite a number of free registry cleaners around so I don't see there's a need to fork out money and buy one. I think having a program that does registry cleaning is important for me because I used to download free softwares in the net to try out. Installing and uninstalling usually leave all the redundant entires, so it's best to remove it.

I do not use any type of registry cleaner, i keep all my important files on a external hard drive and wipe my computer out every 6 months and that keeps my computer running great.

I use "ccleaner" for my registry fixing problem. i think it is easy to use and effective.

Its has the advance features to remove old entries and also has the comprehensive backup feature.

I'm also using ccleaner so far it's doing what it’s supposed to do.

I have tried using ccleaner and it is indeed a great tool in cleaning registry..

But anyway is it indeed necessary to use cleaner for our registry?

always watch what you install , use an uninstaller when you uninstall and please do yourself a favour and do not use registry cleaner.
Things might seem OK when you use it but you never now what some day will work or not.

Ccleaner will be best when it comes with the registry cleaner because aside from being a free software, the process which is done by that software is almost the same as other registry cleaner software.

Without a doubt the most popular cleaner is one called "CCleaner". This is 100% free and has some other useful tools like a junk file cleaner and stuff. However, it doesn't do very deep scans, and can often just find a few problems inside the registry. I prefer to use a tool called "RegCure" which is thebest registry cleaner that I've used.

CCleaner is very good, but even that can do major damage sometimes.
Always use the option to save the entire registry before u clean it. Trust me thats very important.
