I am a new member in this forum. I want to install linux OS in my pc . Also keep windows XP in other drive.

what is the procedure ?

Theres 2 things.

1- Create a new partition and install linux on that partition ( or another harddrive )
2- Run linux on a live CD or live pendrive.

If you are just trying linux out for the first time, use a live cd that will save you from a lot of work, and if you do not like it then their is no harm done.

What OS are you wanting to install?
