Hello guys, I am not sure if I am in the place but my computer did crash due to java problem. The story is I download some PDF file using firefox ( I am using IE all the time but just for this file I download the firefox casue it is recommended using firefox for downloading this file), halfway through the downloading, a warning came up said some java stuff not stable and recommend disabling it after downloading, I did not understand it so I stopping downloading. The next moring when I start the computer, it said one of my disk need to be checked for consistancy, and then windows replaced bad clusters in documents and settings\administrator\NTUSER.DAT, then it checked the free space, this process last over 2 hours when I got into windows XP, it said can not find local file, and using temporary local file, and my system is messed up, and everytime I started the computer , it run this check up for about 2 hours, I just fed up with it. just wonder if it has something to do with Java, and how can I restore my computer( I could not restore it now cause it is disabled), thanks guys!

Could you have downloaded a virus? I'd recommend doing a full virus scan first. Then uninstall Java and Firefox. Then reinstall both.

That may take care of the problem.

Probably not firefox. More likely you have a HD that may be failing or your computer PSU is "glitching".
You are also using the FAT32 filing system which is less robust with regards to such problems than the superior NTFS is.

Take a scan with the hdd's producer's tool, you'll probably find one on their website.
Do a scan for malware with an antivirus+hijackthis, you could also post here the hjt results for a second opinion.

Installing unnecessary add-ons and themes can cause unstabiity to your browser which eventually cause crashes to your PC. So, refrain from doing so.

Firefox - I love her, but she does get out of control. I have a system (Vista) that runs on 4GB of RAM. If I leave just ONE window in Firefox open all night long, I'll wake up and it'll be running at nearly 1GB of RAM. It's sometimes annoying how out of control it gets, but I'm almost convinced it's Vista, and not FF.

Hi Friend,
As far as I know Firefox can slow down and even crash if the download history is allowed to accumulate over time. Make sure the download history does not build up by clicking on "Tools," then "Options," then "Privacy," then "Download History," then "Remove Files from the Download Manager," and then select "Upon successful download." This sets the Download Manager to delete download history files every time Firefox is closed.

<removed>

Thanks,
Winson

I do not believe that could be the reason of the crash. FF is very easy application for any computer to carry.

Seeing as it was complaining about Java, do you have the latest version of Java?

Firefox only completely crashed my computer when I was on a MAC. Firefox does seem to 'not responding' status even on forums much more than other browsers from my experience.

I do not use Mac but I assume there are some recommendations should be regarding what which browser to use.
