Ok, I used to only use 1 screen a few years back but was bored one day and thought, ahhh I better buy another monitor.

Now I don't think I could go back to only using 1 screen anymore, I would go crazy, even thinking about a 3rd screen, but no sure why. Maybe I am addicted to multiple monitors.

I see myself in 20 years having 20 screens with a long beard and only taking showers once a month being locked in the basement if this monitor addiction progresses.

Below would be a cool set up, not sure what I would do with all of them, but cool to have.

Right now I'm using one 23" widescreen and one 19" widescreen. I used to have a second 19" that I positioned vertically, which was great for reading documents. I'd like to have as many as 4 but I'd need a bigger desk.

After going from a single monitor to two or three I can't imaging being nearly as productive without the extras. I suffer from withdraws if I have to use my laptop for a prolonged period.

I use two, a 19" and a 21". i don't think I could go back to using one monitor again. I use the other monitor mainly for emails and accounting type stuff and the general surfing type applications whereas the other one I use for video editing etc.

Previously, only one, now two. 17" and 21".
In fact, I think one is sufficient for me .

I've used a lot of different setups over the years. My two favorites have been
quite different. A couple of years ago I worked for a company and I was using XP (not my choice, a company policy) and I had 2 19" monitors. For coding it was a dream setup.

But more recently I've been working on a 27" iMac. With a screen that large you don't need an extra monitor unless you're doing high level video editing or something. For me, that setup was just amazing. And being Mac OSX 10.6, you've got this feature called "spaces" which kind of negates the need for more than 1 screen, giving you up to 16 virtual screen spaces. I normally use 4.

However, due to recent personal issues I've had to ditch that and now am working from a 13" MacBook. It's adequate, and spaces is a life saver on such a small machine.

The geeky side of me would LOVE a set-up like that. I'd love to move into 3D development, and that would just be amazing to have a bunch of screens like that in front of you.
