All machines, laptops do pick up fibres, hair and dust because they are used in close proximity to clothing.
Cigarette smoke particles are very "sticky" and will build up on the impellor blade edges and reduce the airflow efficiency dramatically.
Cleaning the insides of a computer that has been used where people smoke while using it is not a pleasant for a non-smoker and I've put many people off from smoking near thei computers by showing what builds up on the heatsink. Though it never seems to make them realise that it does exactly the same in their lungs.
Shake 'n' Vac (other carpet freshening products are available) is another computer fan killer, so turn your computer off before vacuuming around.
AND a tobacco smoke particle is around twice the size of the gap between the hard drive platter and the read/write heads, so if the smoke enters via the HD "breather" it can cause a catastrophic collision between head and platter resulting in physical damage and data loss.
