Does anyone here try using VOIP? I am looking for VOIP provider that has a free toll and answering machine that will take messages when I am not online or not available.

He means providers like Skype and Google Voice now allow you free calls and extra features free. Why pay for a VOIP service when you can just use your internet service and make free calls.

@OP, you can use Skype to call for free but you need to pay for additional features such as answering machine, etc.
You can try VOIP Open Source software or Voicemail servers for free like FreeSwitch, or try Google voice (not available for users outside US).
