also increase your computer's refresh rate...

perhaps change colour balance..

* i usually hav a similar problem when changing from software packages i have used for yeras to another..

do you have a CRT of TFT monitor?

CRT is bad for the eyes. when looking at a CRT you don't blink enough so your eyes get dry, that's why.

consider buying a TFT screen that doesn't have that problem

There's glasses that resemble sunglasses that are supposed to help when working on computer screens. I've seen them where I get my eyes checked, but I really don't know what they're called or what the color of the lenses are.

Prio says that there are 9 ways to reduce the symptoms of computer eye strain:
  1. Get an eye examine.
  2. Use proper lighting.
  3. Take frequent breaks.
  4. Refocus your eyes.
  5. Blink more often.
  6. Modify your workstation.
  7. Match the computer screen to the brightness of the surroundings.
  8. Minimize glare.
  9. Exercise even when sitting.
I've noticed that some of them have already been mentioned.
