Does anyone know how to create a rule in Outlook to automatically delete all the emails that are written in HTML format?
I get a lot of spam HTML emails and I want to automatically delete all the emails that I receive in HTML format.
Thanks.

Why not just get a spam filter? There are loads out there. Thunderbird has a fairly good built in one.

Outlook rules aren't great for dealing with spam, they were designed for just automatic mail sorting. By deleting all HTML e-mails, you may be deleting important e-mails that happen to be in HTML format, also there is a lot of spam that is plain text.

Without writing a script in VB I don't think you can set a rule based on html or plain text specifically.

However, you can set a rule to delete messages in a certain size range and since an email in html will be larger than a plain text email. Of course, then you run the risk of deleting a message with an attachment too.

It also depends on what version of Outlook you are running. I don't think that Outlook Express or versions previous to 2003 have the option of checking the file size.

I am not interested in any HTML emails. All of them are either spam, newsletters, or ads. Regular people don't send HTML emails.

Some do. Some e-mail programs automatically send the e-mail off as HTML as soon as you put any type of formatting in them. They don't look like HTML cos there's usually no embedded images. Thunderbird is an example of this.

Well, too bad for them then
I am willing to miss a few good emails to get rid of all the spam I currently receive.

Each to their own I guess... I personally wouldn't want to miss any e-mails meant for me, they could be job offers or important messages from clients & stuff.

That is absolutely not true. I use Outlook and I have it set to use HTML format for ALL of my email.

There are reasons you get a lot of spam, and there are ways to cut down on it - like using an alternate email address, like GMail or similar, when you're posting on line and filling in on-line forms.

Some spam is always going to get thru, especially when people insist on allowing viruses and worms infect their machines by not doing anything to protect themselves.

There is no Rule in Outlook that you can create that will do what you want, it simply isn't there.
