Guys,

My PC at home has been giving me grief for a while. I have XP SP2 plus lots of other goodies on there. When I boot up, sometimes it just freezes. This can be after just a few minutes, or half an hour, or a few hours. Once it's frozen, if I turn off and reboot, 9 times out of ten it won't come back up. The hard drive light comes on, it seems to check the DVD ROM Drive, but I get nothing on screen. It's an Intel GBF865 motherboard. I did rebuild with XP ( originally had 2000 on it ), but seems to have made little difference. I've replaced the memory, and I've swapped HDDs. I don't have another motherboard to swap it with, and they don't make the GBF865 anymore.

Anybody got any ideas how to trouble shoot it ??

Mark.

You might try swapping out I/O cards and see if there is a defective card causing the POD to glitch. Sometime ago I had a similar issue with a PC and it was the video card itself that was causing the issue. It all went away with a new video card installed.

Good Luck!

I would sugest trying to create a new partition and reinstall your OS in that then copy everything over and delete the old partition... OR just format and reinstall everything... HINT: have 1 hdd with virtually only the operating system on and save all sofware toa second hdd. that way you dont have to worry about lossing files and it speed your computer up alot because the hdd with the os on isnt clogged up..

I'd also check the video card. Those symptoms sound familiar to me that way too...especially if it's an onboard card.

Also - make sure your box is clear of dust....my brother nearly fried his processor and changed out every other component - cleaned the dust out of the processor fan and it's run great for about 8 months now.

Ok first step , did you do a fresh install of XP with current hardware on current hard drive, a FRESH install not just a re-install of XP over top.

Then second step if it still fails try installing another hard drive, and re-install XP if fails.

Step 3 if is still under warranty most stores offer a one year warranty when infact most pc hardware comes with manufactors warranty for 3 years. If it contact manufactors and say I have faulty mainboard can I get an RA to get a new one.

As if all of above fails is most likely a motherboard issue
