I am building a computer from scratch and I think I have everything done, so I decided to boot up. The fans turn on, the DVD drive lights up, the power button and the standby button light up, the keyboard light comes on, and the LED's on the case light up, but my monitor says "No signal" and I have a blank screen. The mobo manual says the system should beep and go to bios, but neither happen. I went back through the manual and made sure I installed everything there and plugged in all the cables and then checked the computer for loose cables.

The only things that are missing are: I have not plugged the mouse in yet, and I left the case cover off. I don't think either of these things would matter?

Thanks

could be video card not seated or memory not seated
BIOS reset jumper/switch in reset position.
CPU wrong way around / not seated / dead
motherboard could be dead

If the video card was bad or not seated properly, it would give three long beeps at startup.

It would, if as you say "bad" or not present give 3 beeps. But I have had a few occurences where it has been recognised, not given any POST errors (beeps) but just not started and pulling it out of the socket then refitting the card has cured it.

OK, I forgot to plug in the speakers and since the mobo has a voice alert instead of beeps I did not hear anything.

Anyways, when I turned on the computer again, the voice says, "System failed memory test." Do you think the memory is completely dead or can anything be done to fix it? I have taken it out several times and replaced it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I replaced the memory and the message went away, but still nothing on the monitor.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now I took out the video card and put it back in, and the memory failure message came back with both cards I tried.

Thanks for all the help, but I got it fixed now.

I'm not sure what I did, but I unplugged a few things and plugged them in and now it works fine.

Well.......I configured the BIOS, installed Windows, and then shut it off to move onto my computer desk and connect the printer, scanner, modem, etc.

Once I got it moved, I turned it back on and got the same "System failed memory test" error. Tomorrow I will take it back apart and play with it some more, but what is wrong with it?

Is it the memory, or the memory slot or something else?

Thanks

From the start of this thread it has sounded like a memory issue to me.

It might be bad, the wrong speed, or incompatiable with your board.

The fact that it actually booted once or twice surprises me.

Check the mobo memory reccomendations.
Check the jumpers if you set any.
Set the bios to default if you have changed anything.

Let us know how it turns out.
