I want to rip something from a copyrighted DVD for my personal use but I'm not sure if it's okay, you know, copyright laws and stuff. Anyway, I also don't know how so I plan to check out some online help and stumbled into something which says that I might need some bigger hard disk space. Should I?

It depends on how much space you have on your HD as to whether you need a bigger one or not, but a few gigs isn't really that much unless you intend to rip more than the one. As for legal issues, as long as you don't distribute anything you should be fine.

no certainly not, you have already enough with some giga's, you should count that a movie takes up to 4.7gig if you know that you know what space taht you need.

As most HD's are now coming with minimum of 80Gigs and unless you have used up most of the free spaces of your HD you should be easily able to rip the DVD in your HD.
