What is the IP address of your router?
What is the IP address of your machine when you plug in the Ethernet cable to the router?
What is the cable modem IP address?
Have you got it set up correctly (most cable modems assign IPs through DHCP, so that should be all you need)?
What happens when you plug in the Ethernet wire directly to the modem and bypass the router?
Basically, just go through your various troubleshooting steps (most of which will be outlined in the router manual.) 99.9% of problems are there.
