Do you think spam is getting worse in Email ? Just latly I'm starting to think spam is getting worse your thoughts ?

it is always getting worse
every day some entity is stopped for spamming and prosocuted but 2 more start... its a never ending battle

I think of this all the time; there has got to be a way to stop this crap from getting through, or perhaps a way of making it so unprofitable, such a waste of time that no one will actually want to send out spam.

There are MANY ways of which spam can be virtually eminiated... BUT all those ways will infinge somebodies rights.

Goverments could (and do but not for spam, americans are so nieve...) scan every email communication in and out of their country and automatically remove spam before it even reaches the recipitents isp server. but wait that infinges the whole free speech thing and privicy.

ISP could bar email addresses that have sent spam from passing through their servers but what if your account got hacked and someone sent spam u wouldnt be able to use it. and what if u were sending a mailing list that wanted the emails? no that wouldnt work...

If we rely on a corrupt government institution to solve our social problems they will only make them worse. Personally, I would rather keep my free speech and my ability to combat spam on a social level and just have to deal with spam than suffer through a government alternative.

you would be suprised how much the u.s goverment in particluar moniter communications.

most people do not realise but all phone call are sent through computer filters, if they pick up X amount of key words the call is moniterd more closely, so if i called someone and said "i am going to the LONDON underground with a BOMB because i am a TERRORIST working with AL KIEDA (spelt somin like that)." it could be picked up and moniterd...

same with email etc...

Believe me, I'm not naive to this. I never even disputed that it happens. I just said that I would rather not leave the problem of spam in the hands of the government. As a society we can be much more effective and I think this is the way to go.

Yes, the government does have the technology in place to handle spam but do you really want them too?

Yes I agree we should find it as a internet community together

i know everyone hack the spammers and completely fill every BIT of ther hard drive with usless s**tty viagra ads...

I get one one of my accounts 200+ emails a day.

about 50+ of them are trying to sell me viagra!

For some reason the spam in emails through my ISP have cut right back & I am not paying them to filter for me. But on Gmail, MSN etc yeah they are everywhere.

I'm in Aus Dan....I assume the Govt here are the same?

Im on ntl and you can set it so they automatically delete spam before it even get to your computer so it might be that. login to you isp site and see if you can change settigns on you account and stuff.

Okay Dan, this post had my mind conjuring up images of terrorist chatting on YM and sending each other text messages. Funny but a little creepy too. I imagine US government/intelligence would be more strict in monitoring all communication to and from the country, even beyond I think, since the 9/11 incident.


I agree that spam is getting a whole lot worse. There used to be a time when I can check emails nice and quick, all spam in the bulk folder. But now even my inbox is littered with student loans, mortgages, credit and even f*ck buddies(wtf)? I mean where in the world do i get these crap?

Even more spam is getting through into my inbox on Gamil and SA. My big question about spam - Who in thier right mind would take it as a serious and legitimate advertising?? Come on!

Spam is getting pretty bad, but I'm not having a problem with it in my email. Spam filters are pretty good these days. I'm using a program called SpamSieve and it filters out almost all of my spam on all 8 of my email addresses.

What I'm finding most annoying is spam posted on forums. Those **** nokia phones are driving me mad!

Okay there is no denying that the US gov/intelligents is now dramatically tightend security all round, but i have to say that the british goverment has probally maxed out out its security since july o5 when terrorist tried (and failed...) to bomb the london underground and also blew up the bus.

spam, i think spam is everywhere nowadays - from emails to advertisments, to products to cash - spam is growing fast, just be truthful ppl!!!

I usually create a new email address every 6 or so months because of the spam...

Since email is free, we get spam.

I read that "authorities" were thinking of charging for email to stop Spam! Other "authorities" said that email will remain free but a small fee can be charged to ensure the email will arrive in the reciepient's indox and bypass and spam filters.

I'm still trying to figure out how I keep winning the British lottery when I live in Colorado, and I don't want to go to Africa because people with my last name seem to keep dying there.

I've noticed an increase in the last few months of messages that have the same body but different subjects... so I can't just filter on subject anymore. I literally set up a new body text filter about every other day... takes me about 60 seconds to do it, which isn't long but gets really annoying.

I can't change email addresses either because I have multiple addresses that are tied to various websites for support and contact information.

I use SpamAssassin which is built-in to most web hosting providers via cpanel.
