Ok so here is my problem. I live in the country, I have a dsl ISP coming through the phone. I am networking 2 houses together. So the isp comes through house 1, and hooks into a modem. Then an ethernet wire goes to a router. Then one ethernet wire to one pc and one to house 2.

Ok at house 2 I have the same phone line, yet I will get into that later.

Ok so at house 2 I have just the 1 pc setup on the network.

I am getting a laptop, and an xbox 360, so i want to see what I can do to keep it all working good.

So what I am wondering is this.

When the ISP is down you have to reset the modem to get it going again. Can I run a modem at each house using the same number and everything? Like get one one ebay like the one at house 1 and put it at house 2 hooked up to the phone line that house one uses? and run the same, so if it crashes I can reset it from house 2 instead of going to house 1 to do it?

Ok then if not,

can I run a hub

so the modem to the router, then one cord going to one pc and then one cord going to the hub which then will go to house 2

This way traffic will not get disturbed with house 1?

Either way I am trying to figure out how i can run both houses while still wired, but then at house 2 setup a wirless router for an xbox and a laptop.

anyhelp would be great

Ok so here is whats up. I live in the country. I live next to my in laws. We share the internet connection through a phone line.

When the isp or modem gets screwy, you have to reset the modem to get the internet to come back up. I am wondering if I can get the same modem and place it at my house and then when it goofs up reset at my home. We both use teh same phone line, but I am wondering if you can have 2 seperate modems run the same internet?

Or I was told to get a hub, because if I run the cable from teh router now to a hub and then to my house, it will give my own ip and traffic

a hub would probally be best, but i honestly wouldnt know if two woul work, i tihnk it would like muck it up and would only allow the first moden to connect if you know what i mean, so if one was off when the other in sue then it prob work but if u want both at same time i dont think it would.

make sense?
