Hi,

I recently hooked up my pc to get wireless - after living in a room (in a house) without a phone line (the cost was $70 to put in a jack...and I don't plan on living here for too long). Anyway the main computer with the router is in the living room - my room is just off the living room around a corner.

I purchased a belkin desktop wireless-g card and installed it in my pc the router is also belkin so everything was working fine right from the beginning then all of a sudden after about a week - i started having connection strength issues. I notice that if went to the router and unplugged it and moved it around a little I would get better reception but then all of a sudden the icon in my taskbar on my pc showed that the utility was off.
I went to re-connect even though I was actually online anyway... but it will not connect - so now I am connected and yet my wireless utility says i am NOT.

what I want to know is - after contacting belkin support they said I had to uninstall everything including the card. This is going to be a huge hassel for me because of the way my pc is situated. Yes, I did originally install it myself but I put my computer back thinking I would not have to open it for a long time so I am hoping that someone here can tell me it's simply a setting that is wrong.

Also, forgot to mention I ran a diagnostic test on the wireless utility and everything passed - gateway, ip addr, WINS, DNS, etc.. EXCEPT for "Heartbeat". I cannot figure out what heartbeat is...

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

I had the exact same problem. I had to turn off the desktop Internet finder software to get the belkin software to work. Or the other way around. The problem is the two software fighting each other for control. Mind never did work very good but if I could get one or other software to stay turned off then it would work till I had to restart or the turned off software decide to reset itself then the problem of the two software fighting to control the connection started all over again. In the end gave up. Sorry that does not sound to promising but that I did find the problem was both problems fighting.

Yes Kimberly your explanation made perfect sense because what I wound up doing was uninstalling it and then re-installing it. Unfortunately after about a week the same thing happend so now I know why. Basically I think this particular brand of networking hardware/software is a piece. But it's all I got and now I am just dealing with it instead of trying to fix it.

Thanks for the explanation.

you can also try to update your firmware on your router. I always hate when wireless cards try to help out with connecting, remove that and reboot. Should work. I use Belkin G stuff at home, no problems. Always like Belkin too.
