Ok folks no matter how em-brassing they may be, what computer miss haps, funny stories or share stupidity have you experienced since having a computer.

I have had a few but the reason I ask is because I just have had a recent miss hap (and probably the best to date).

Ok I couldn't drag any icons, right click icons, move tabs in firefox and various other things that involve dragging/dropping etc.

After i searched on the internet for 2+ hours I found loads of other people where having the same problem. Many fixes, patches and changes later still no joy. So a system re-store was in process. Computer boots back up, logged in (with grate difficulty because the password box kept closing).

Still thinking about a CSS problem I had earilyer I reach for my CSS book (one of those 500 page+ Visual quick start guides) only to realise it was sat on the esc key on my keyboard.

long and behold when i removed the book full computer functionality was returned

Now I no that one is going to hard to beat but lets hear what you got.

I have yet to have a funny experience with a computer (generally just annoying ones), but I once watched someone pour a coffee into a laptop (by accident). incidentally, it was successfully repaired

I had one happen just yesterday...the son of one of my customers was complaining that the Internet was down at his house.

What he neglected to tell me was that he unplugged the modem and the router and took both downstairs (it's a portable internet modem since they're in the styx and it's the only high-speed available out there, and as such the modem has to sit near a window.)

My client called me 20 minutes later to explain what had happened. All I had to do was tell him "take it back upstairs, put everything back the way it was and you will get a big surprise."

And well...he did.

Nothing funny really... just stuff I would consider stupid. After a very long holiday, I came home and had to wrok, ugh, turned on the PC and then fan made very strange noises and then stopped spinning. I obviously immediately shut it down, I open it up, what do I see, the biggest ****ing spider ever got caught in the fan and somehow managed to block it up... It is a big slow spinning fan though.
Otherwise, dropped my laptop down a few steps, dropped a brand new external hdd while formatting (ouch I heard the needle jump around like crazy), spilled a drink on a new gfx card, had a processor take a bath, broke some plastic thing on a fan only to see the whole thing fly off, ripped my router of the wall while slipping on a sheet of paper for a new web design, toner cartridge basically exploded in my face, scanner glass burst, cd drive that would continuessly open and close after having been ejected by nero, floppy drive that shot the diskettes out instead of just pushing, pc that powers up a bit, ten shuts down to power up correctly.
all I can think of, just unlucky.

The second computer I ever built (I was 16) was not posting for some reason, I spent two days checking all the connections, making sure the CPU was seated properly, etc. Finally I gave up and realized I needed help, so I took it back to where I bought it from, explained to the guy who sold all the pieces to me that I had very little money and could not afford to pay him the normal labor cost however, if he could point me in the right direction I would buy him a sub from subway. He bit and not even 1 minute later he started laughing hysterically; turns out that the power supply came out of the box switched to 220v (European). This wasn't even the worst part though, after he switched it and turned on the power we both got to see for the first time ever what it looked like for a $400 CPU to fry and make blue smoke. After my last time checking the seating of the CPU I forgot to replace the fan. He was very nice though, he cleaned it up the best he could to send back to the factory as defective, he then gave me a new one knowing that I would never be able to afford another. Needless to say, I only shopped at their computer store for the rest of the time I lived in Washington.

Its nice when people do stuff like that. for ya

i brought a digital TV card from Maplins installed it all and the sofware just wouldnt work! it would open and just show the splash screen and i would haveto terminate from taskmanger i tried everything i found quite a few things on the net with the same thing. i gave up packed it up and took it back and they still took it even though the box had been kicked around my rooma few times and was falling apart. quite funny showed one guy he said okay like took it to front of shop for refund and they enterd it for somein differant anyways. sill i got my money .

Can anyone suggest btw a Good quality cheap Digital internal Tv card?

I like my local maplins when i brought my pc part when i build my pc. it was quite fun really a few of the parts were display and the guy said 1% off but i sweet talked the nice girl and manged to get 5% off the lot and we had coupons! Lol worked out with the money off coupons and the reductions we saved over £50.

NEXT? someone else have something to share?...

Dan

Maplin sucks.
I hate the place, a lot of incompetent people there. I told them exactly what I needed and they were like, let me check *type*type* I'm soory, we don't know what that is.
Well then find out.

as litle britain says: "Computer says no.."

i know what you mean someof the people in mine are a sandwich, blanket and grass short of a picnic but u can tell there are some geeks in there who actually know what they talking about. they maybe a-holes but hey lol, my advice go to the geeks to get what you want and then go to someone else to get the money off! it works. Lol

**** Moving on ***

i thoguht i fried my pc the other day.. i want to make some led light for my case (well MORE led lights for in my case) and i was siting there iwth the side open (turnned on) and (this is gonna sound so stupid on my part) i had this wire which i was/am gonna use for the lights i stuck one in the end of the to jacks on the 4 pin which (as far as i know) give of the 12V and anyways i was tring to test a led with it.. and the wire touched and the whole thing just went zilch.. just went instantly i gues the psu cut out coz i suggerd it... anyways i though ooh [4 letter word] closed it all up pushed power button... apears to boot but nothing goinf throught to moniters...... again... agian... unplugged plugged in.. push nothing on screen.. could feel hdds movement, light on fans on, but not visual output..... unplug left for minute plugged in and it worked! Yay

and anyone who even thoght i knew anything and knew my stuff will not think im a prat.. LOL

i think ill just buy some LED lights i saw in maplins for £5 XD

comeone soemone must have funny stories...
