Hello all,
computer was working fine for several months, last night locked up completly had to power down. Now when i go to boot no post at all.
unplugged hd's and tried again nothing still.
If its the power supply does it still kinda work as it comes on with 2 lights in front but nothing happens just black screen?
Any suggestions on what to do next?

A few months ago when my computer was turned off due to a blackout at my area, I wasn't able to turn my computer on even after the blackout was over. I had to wait until the next morning before my com and the monitor started working again. I don't know why but maybe if u waited for a while, it will start working again?

maybe there was a serge which caused ur pc to much and fried something?

i think it is motherboard, open up ur pc, and look at what appears to be working, does the cpu get warm what parts get warm, etc
check all connections etc, the usuaally.

Also a point to note, as it sounds like it is your mb. did you buy you pc or build yourself?
and you will have to reinstall windows (or other) when you get a new mother board (unless you buy a whole new pc which will cost alot more )

and unless you fiddle with partitions when you re-install windows it will format your hdd and you will loose everything so make a back up of all files, and move on

Hope this helps.

Dan

Nope. Power supply would give you no power at all.

The only other thing I can think of is if you replace the video card. That might also be your problem (and would explain your black screen.)

Not necessarily, Dan. The new PSes come with a 4-pin detachable set so that you can hook up a PS to a 20-pin motherboard input (or you can leave the set on and go with your normal 24-pin.)
